San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon

I've been so bad at blogging lately. So many times I sit with the intention of writing something, but then start to think that I need some deep topic to actually write about. Not so. This is MY blog. There are no rules. I can write whatever I want. About whatever I want. If I want to write about a mosquito biting me, I can. I know, that's stupid. However, that is my point. If I want to rant about something stupid, I can! By the way, I did get bit by a mosquito and it's really gross! lol I was out in the garden working and it bit me. Darn mosquito!! Yes, I'm done with my rant here. =)

My mom let me know the other night that there is a Relay option for the Rock "N" Roll Half-Marathon that you can walk/run. I started to think again that maybe I could just do the whole half-marathon myself but after doing research on how long it takes to train realistically...the Relay it is. My sister Em and I are going to team together. We still have to come up with a team name. There is a time limit of 4 hours, or else you have to take the sag wagon that will come and pick you up on the course because you're falling too far behind. I looked last night at the route again and noticed that it's not an even 6.5 mile trade off for the relay. The switch-off point is actually just shy of 8 miles, leaving just over 5 for the second team member. I want to be the first one, so now my goal is to get the 8 miles down to 2 hours. I've mapped a 4 mile route that I will just double, and work on my time. The Half-Marathon is June 5th, and goes all through San Diego and starts in my favorite place (Balboa Park). I'm excited and looking forward to it. I will have to jog a portion of it, but I am doing a bit better with that. I'm working on it at least. I don't have to run much because I've got a good pace walking, but I will have to run parts of it.

My mom and I just did our first 5K of the year. It was the Finish Chelsea's Run 5K Run/Walk. Chelsea King was a local high-school student that was out for a run when she was abducted and murdered. Her parents have fought hard to make Chelsea's Law a reality here in California. They were at the 5K and had trained to run it in their daughters honor. Beautiful. Over 5,000 people were there, and it was an honor to be a part of that group! It was a beautiful day and event.

Our next event is a Canyon Clean-up that I'll do with my moms work bunch. I've pretty much become an honorary member of the hospital she works for. I do all their events with her and help with most everything. It's a great group of people, and we always laugh so that is always a plus.

My goal for the next few months is train for the Half-Marathon and make it through.
